Saturday, May 7th, 2016 from 10:00 to 16:00 the one-day event “Insieme per il bene comune – dalla terra al cielo” will be held in Rome at the “Isola Felice”, garden, next to the Church of St. Felice da Cantalice in the Centocelle district. It is a civic maintenance and urban mending initiative that closes the non-formal education program of LUISS LabGov 2015/2016.
It will be a feast day in the name of civic collaboration, organized by LUISS LabGov together with Associazione 100 e a capo, with the support of Municipio V as part of the Co-Rome process.
During the event, a community garden will be built in the San Felice garden, using materials found and prepared by the students of LUISS LabGov education program.It will be managed by Associazione 100 e a capo, an association of parents and grandparents of the primary school Cecconi in Centocelle that will take care of it within a green space adopted a few months ago and thus subtracted to abandonment and degradation.
There will be creative activities and workshops such as filling the bins to embellish the green area, followed by a walk and/or bike ride within the Centocelle Park.
The goal is to disseminate good practices in order to protect the environment and the beauty of Rome, through the promotion of civic use and care of urban commons. LUISS students, assisted by an interdisciplinary pool of landscapers and street architects, social media managers, lawyers of the community, services designers and triple sustainability experts have also worked on a medium/long-term strategy to generate jobs and solidarity starting from Centocelle commons.
Going outside the university buildings in order to create the first “urban collaborative garden” is just the first step to test new solutions and grow the collaboration between the five top actors at the city level: citizens, institutions, companies, schools and associations.
The new community garden, the first powerful initiative in a suburb in Rome, is just the beginning of a journey that has as an additional objective in leading to the creation of a new institutional form of community for the governance of the commons, which are essential to the well-being of neighborhoods, such as the Centocelle Park.
The new LUISS community garden that symbolizes the “seed” that, beginning from the existing collaborative resources, wants to give birth to a new institutional form of active community that has a chance to give its contribute in re-writing and drawing on a daily basis the rules of social coexistence and urban economic development in the management of services, activities, neighborhoods and city commons, along with public institutions.
The ultimate purpose of the Co-Roma_Roma collabora! – this is the name that LUISS students gave to the whole project – it is to develop, design and test a strategy for the governance of the commons suitable to shape “the city and the territory of Rome as commons.”
Representatives from the University LUISS Guido Carli, local institutions, associations and neighborhood committees will intervene.

Sabato 7 Maggio 2016 dalle ore 10:00 alle ore 16:00 si terrà a Roma presso “l’Isola Felice”, giardino attiguo alla Chiesa di San Felice da Cantalice nel quartiere Centocelle, una giornata – evento ‘‘Insieme per il bene comune – dalla terra al cielo”, operazione di manutenzione civica e rammendo urbano conclusiva del programma di educazione non formale LUISS LabGov 2015/2016.
Sarà una giornata di festa all’insegna della collaborazione civica organizzata da Luiss LabGov e Associazione 100 e a capo con il supporto del Municipio V nell’ambito del processo Co-Roma.
Nel corso della giornata verrà costruito nel Giardino San Felice un orto condiviso, con materiali reperiti e preparati dagli studenti del laboratorio educativo Luiss LabGov. L’orto condiviso verrà gestito dall’Associazione 100 e a capo, un’associazione di genitori e nonni della scuola primaria Cecconi di Centocelle, che se ne prenderà cura all’interno di uno spazio verde adottato da qualche mese e sottratto quindi all’abbandono e al degrado.
Si svolgeranno laboratori ludico-creativi come il riempimento dei cassoni per abbellire l’area verde; seguirà una passeggiata a piedi e/o in bicicletta all’interno del Parco di Centocelle.
L’obiettivo è quello di diffondere una buona prassi a tutela dell’ambiente e della bellezza di Roma attraverso la promozione di forme di uso civico e cura dei beni comuni urbani. Gli studenti Luiss assistiti da un pool interdisciplinare di paesaggisti e architetti di strada, social media managers, giuristi di comunità, designers dei servizi ed esperti di tripla sostenibilità hanno lavorato anche ad una strategia di medio-lungo termine per generare lavoro e solidarietà a partire dai beni comuni del quartiere Centocelle. Uscire dall’università per creare il primo “giardino di collaborazione urbana” è solo il primo passo per sperimentare nuove soluzioni e ‘‘coltivare’’ la collaborazione tra cinque fondamentali attori della città: i cittadini, le istituzioni, le imprese, le scuole e l’associazionismo.
L’installazione dell’orto condiviso, prima importante operazione in una periferia romana, è solo l’inizio di un percorso che ha come ulteriore obiettivo quello di portare alla costituzione di una nuova istituzione di comunità per la gestione di beni comuni fondamentale per il benessere del quartiere come il Parco di Centocelle. Dall’orto Luiss, nasce un nuovo orto che simbolicamente rappresenta il ‘‘seme’’ che, partendo dalle risorse collaborative esistenti, vuole dare vita ad una nuova istituzione di comunità, una comunità attiva che abbia la possibilità di contribuire a riscrivere e disegnare quotidianamente le regole della convivenza sociale e lo sviluppo economico urbano nella gestione di servizi, attività, quartieri e beni della città insieme con le istituzioni pubbliche.
Lo scopo ultimo del processo Co-Roma_Roma collabora!, questo il nome che gli studenti Luiss hanno dato all’intero progetto, è quello di elaborare, disegnare e sperimentare una strategia di governance dei beni comuni idonea a configurare “la città e il territorio di Roma come beni comuni”.
Interverranno rappresentanti dell’Università LUISS Guido Carli le Istituzioni locali, le associazioni e i comitati di quartiere.

On Saturday the 16th of April the city of Bologna will host its second Festival of Civic Collaboration, an occasion to celebrate citizens’ participation and civic engagement.
The event, organized by the Municipality of Bologna together with Bologna’s Urban Center, will take place in conjunction with the celebrations of “Pilastro 2016”, a project directed at the development of Pilastro’s neighborhood through a participative process involving different actors belonging to the area.
The Festival presents a rich program characterized by activities directed to all citizens, which will take place throughout the day. An opening speech will be held by the Major at 11am, followed by a ceremony in which a prize will be awarded to all the actors who signed Collaboration Pacts and Conventions. In this occasion the prize “Turrita d’Argento” will be assigned to the Social Street Movement and to the volunteers of the association CIVIBO for the project “Cucine Popolari”, as examples of civic engagement and collaboration, and the winners of the contest “Accensione Civica” will receive a prize for their projects selected for the care of common goods.
After a collaborative lunch (where everyone is invited to share something to eat) a discussion will offer a moment for reflection and confrontation on the topic of co-building a collaborative city. Labgov, represented by Professor Christian Iaione, will partecipate in the discussion, titled ““Co-Costruire la Città Collaborativa. Il caso ‘Pilastro2016’”, which will begin at 15.30pm. Alongside with the Professor will intervene in the debate: Matteo Lepore (Economy and Promotion of the City Councillor), Riccardo Malagoli (Public works and Housing Policies Councillor), Simone Borsari (President of San Donato neighborhood), Giovanni Ginocchini (UrbanCenter’s Director) and Ilaria Daolio (“Pilastro2016” Project Coordinator).
The program of the Festival includes a wide range of activities directed to citizens of all ages and kinds, ranging from animated readings for children to live music, videos projection, a “Barter Festival”, a theatre performance and a walk to discover the neighborhood’s green area.
Following the first edition of the Festival of Civic Collaboration, this second edition will be the occasion to bring our attention on those who “innovate and renovate” and, starting from local identity and traditions, are able to propose new models of civic engagement and collaboration.

LabGov with professor Christian Iaione will be in Israel this week!
The Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies and Bat Yam Urban Center organized the conference as a continuation of the major project “ Israel Sustainability Outlook 2030 ”, which was completed by JIIS and the Ministry for Environmental Protection.
Three panels will be held during the day on:
- Urban Sustainability and Cooperative Economics – Can the two work together?
- The New Role of the Public Sphere and Communities
- Looking Toward the Future
Christian Iaione will talk about The Co-city during the session “New roles for Public and Community Spaces”.
A nice video realized by the The Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies JIIS, explains the prospectives and goals of their project and on what they are working on. For example:
- strategic programs for accelerated economic growth
- expanding opportunities for disadvantages communities
- long term population projection for suitable transportation development
- established jerusalem as the ‘’pilot city’’ for urban sustainability in Israel.
We want, as the video propound, be part of the change, by taking part in the conference and sharing knowledge about the projects that LabGov made and on which subjects LabGov is working on
On Tuesday, April 12, professor Christian Iaione will have a meeting in the Jerusalem Municipality in the morning, during the evening he will participate in a meeting in the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
On Wednesday, April 13, he will take part in “Ma’ala“ Forum for Corporate Social Responsibility in Tel Aviv in the morning and in the evening he will be at an academic seminar in Haifa University.
On Thursday, April 14, he will take part in an interest conference in Jerusalem .

The author Will Self suggests this idea of “the threat to national psyche”, talking about what happened in the City Hall of London where campaigners gathered to protest against privatisation of public spaces not only in London but throughout UK.
Will Self focused his attention on this first public reaction and analyzes the consequences. The fact that public spaces in Britain’s cities fall into private hands was having a deleterious impact on the capital’s citizens. It is impossible to forget the psychological dimension : what can you do in that place or how much time you want spend in that place, everything seems to disappear – it needs to be stopped.Will Self is one of the first voice of this opposing campaign, he tries to preserve UK cities for their residents.Protesters on Saturday cited London’s Canary Wharf, Olympic Park and the Broadgate development in the City as public places now governed by the rules of the corporations that own them.
Currently there are a lot of private spaces in Britain for example Birmingham’s Brindleyplace, an important canalside development. In Exeter, there is Princesshay, described as a “shopping destination featuring over 60 shops set in a series of interconnecting open streets and squares”.
The property group Land Securities along with the monarch’s property portfolio, the Crown Estate owned this spaces. In particular, Land Securities owns a large waterside complex of restaurants, shops and bar in Portsmouth.
And what about Garden Bridge,a breathtaking new public garden that will stretch across the River Thames? The Garden Bridge will offer a new kind of green space in the heart of the city, cementing London’s status as the greenest capital in Europe. Self’s position is clear enough : “ it could be great – it will be shit.” Lots of daily actions will be not allowed by corporate restrictions, such as playing musical instruments, making a speech, releasing balloons and many other pursuits.
The choice of location is not accidental: on a patch of grass near City Hall on the banks of the Thames; it gives visitors the illusion of being a public space but is in fact controlled by private security, with its own set of regulations.The challenge of this opposing campaign is to resist cause day bay day, residents have been deprived of the capacity to make free choices of their own, looking at the architecture the change is evident.
Sian Berry, Green party candidate for mayor of London, wards citizens’s requests saying that her modification of the London Plan,would prevent controversial projects such as the Garden Bridge excluding the public at the request of its owners and also provides to introduce rules to ensure that new publicly accessible spaces in the capital were governed by the law of the land.

In Inghilterra ma a Londra in particolare si avverte il senso di smarrimento provato dai cittadini, i cui beni comuni progressivamente finiscono nelle mani delle società private.
“Quello che la gente non capisce è che influisce sulla stessa psichicamente. Ti costringe nel modo di pensare a cosa si può fare in uno spazio, e costringe la vostra immaginazione. E ‘come una condensazione di tempo e denaro e di spazio – ha bisogno di essere resistito”. Solo difendendo questi spazi difendiamo noi stessi.

The topic of the second edition of the Sharing School will be CO-Cities and CO-territories, cities and territories collaborative. The focus of the work will be on the design and redesign of urban and indoor areas, at the time of collaborative economy.
Sharing school is organized by : Labgov , Casanetural, RENA, Collaboriamo.
As areas of action to be explored with the participants and the teachers have been chosen: the collaborative agriculture, collaborative living, the suburbs as places of social integration, culture as knowledge and promotion of tourism.
The training experience is aimed at:
– Policy makers: politicians, managers and public officials, administrators who want to understand what it is and how to promote the collaborative economy;
– Entrepreneurs, and innovators startupper they have in mind an idea, a project, a business and want to understand how to achieve the best;
– Designers, experts and professionals working for public and private institutions and want to understand how to use the tools of collaboration.
Priority will be given to 35 participants, including 5 ” holders ” of collaborative projects, one of them is Labgov, consistent with the program, to study and implement together during the days of Sharig School in workshop sessions.
Priority will be given to projects that have:
– Elements of digital innovation;
– Organizational and community development techniques;
– Scalability and replicability of the project;
– In the medium to long term sustainability model;
– Objectives such as job creation, the reduction of urban poverty, sustainable land use.
