Second session for LabGov EDU 2017/2018

Second session for LabGov EDU 2017/2018

On Friday, November 17th and Saturday 18th LabGov EDU will go ahead with its second session of workshop + co-working!

Friday 17th will be dedicated to “Lo Stato di Roma” (The State of Rome), a focus on the new possible models for the co-governance of local territories that are rising in the city of Rome thanks to local experimental processes.

Cities, and in particular their suburbs, are nowadays a fertile fieldwork where various collective project are being developed by active citizens who are aware of the value of urban spaces and thanks to this awareness organize themselves to re-use them and take care of them.
Projects like Agenda Tevere and Co-Roma are characterized by a strong seek for change, and for the capacity of accomplishing short-term compromises to reach realistic objectives. It’s from this heritage of ideas and experiences that cities should re-start defining a strategic vision for urban spaces and their re-use.
Different key actors will be hosts of the Lab and are going to share their experiences:

Massimi Alvisi / Eloisa Susanna, Alvisi Kirimoto Architects

Paola Cannavò, UDLab – Università della Calabria

Carlo Cellamare, DICEA – “Sapienza” Università di Roma
Silvano Simoni, Assessorato Sostenibilità Ambientale – Comune di Roma
Ana Viader Soler, Institut für Landschaftsarchitektur – TU Dresden
.
The Lab will also host students from the landscaping course in Dresda’s University.
Saturday 18th will be fully dedicated to a co-working session through service design tools with LabGov EDU’s students

Two legislative proposals about commons in Tuscany

Two legislative proposals about commons in Tuscany

On Wednesday, October 15th, from 10.00 a.m., the First Standing Council Committee (Institutional Affairs, Programming and Budget, information and communication) of the Tuscany Regional Council will discuss about two legislative proposals on commons:

  • the law proposal n. 219 is about social subsidiarity and civic collaboration for the management of commons, pursuant to Articles 58 and 59 of the Statute;
  • the law proposal n. 225 is about the shared government of commons and the government of the areas, in order to promote the social subsidiarity and the implementation of Articles 58 and 59 of the Statute.

The audition will take place in Florence, at the premises of the Regional Council.

Professor Christian Iaione , LabGov’s co-founder and scientific director, will be a member of the Council Committee.

The Statute of Tuscany incorporates the principle of horizontal subsidiarity provided by Article 118, fourth paragraph, of the Constitution as a principle of social subsidiarity. Pursuant to Article 58, the Region alignes its activities to the principle of subsidiarity, in order to bring the organization of social life and the exercise of public functions closer to citizens. The Region fosters, pursuant to Article 59, the own initiative of citizens and their aggregations for the direct conduct of activities in the public interest; the implementation of the principle of social subsidiarity is a priority aimed at improving the level of services, overcoming both economic and social inequalities, to encourage the collaboration of citizens and social groups.

BUILD 2017 – Bilbao Urban Innovation Leadership Dialogues

BUILD 2017 – Bilbao Urban Innovation Leadership Dialogues

From November 15th to 17th, Detroit will host BUILD – Bilbao Urban Innovation Leadership Dialogues, the event organised by The German Marshall Funds for the United States that will reflect on the role that cities and regions can play in the broader transatlantic relationship via new subnational diplomacy efforts and by reflecting our transatlantic values of democracy, freedom and justice.

BUILD is a  forum for urban innovators that explores pressing issues facing transatlantic cities and how to move from ideas to action. GMF launched BUILD in 2014 as a vehicle for discussing transformative change in transatlantic cities supporting greater sustainability, inclusion, and global engagement.

BUILD 2016 launched a conversation on urban transformation in the digital age: this dialogue is going to be deepend and examined in light of new disruptive dynamics challenging rtaditional paradigms in the global political and economic order. Last year’s forum added a new dimension to the exploration of urban transformation — the impact of the digital age on the people, places, and economies of transatlantic cities.

BUILD 2017 plenary sessions will provide a space for critical discussion of how transatlantic cities can rise above the wave of disruption to global leadership while delivering on a local agenda of sustainability, inclusion, and innovation. In keeping with BUILD’s mission, the sessions will address both the policy dimensions and leadership practices to support participants in translating ideas into action.

Alicia Bonner Ness, LabGov’s senior advisor for the Co-Cities research, is going to attend the forum. In particular, she is going to attend the breakout session “Neighborhoods Rising: Co-Creation as an Antidote to Apathy?” on Friday 17th morning. The session will challenge prior thinking on engagement by presenting three models of engagement — co-creation, co-production, and co-city — from leading experts in the field.

The agenda of the 2017 forum is available on the BUILD Program page.

The 2016 BUILD Report is now available.
